Software Estimation Subject: Software, Project Management Author: Steve McConnell, Microsoft Press This is a book I've been meaning to read for a while. I personally don't have a problem with Microsoft publishing his books. Earlier this year I attended Steve McConnell's Software Estimation in Depth course based on his book Software Estimation: Demystifying the Black Art. Software Estimation: Demystifying the Black Art by Steve McConnell; Estimating Software-Intensive Systems, by Richard D. As I noted on my last review, the best book on estimation I've so far come across has been Steve McConnell's Software Estimation: Demystifying the Black Art (unreviewed). McConnell describes the difference between science and art of estimation. I introduced in last june book Code Complete 2 by same author – it is suggested reading for developers. If I could make this chapter mandatory company reading, I would! Describes lots of factors we normally overlook during estimation. Software Estimation - Demystifying the Black Art is another masterpiece by Steve McConnell. Software Estimation: Demystifying the Black Art (2006), Code Complete (1993, 2004), Rapid Development (1996), Software Project Survival Guide (1998), and Professional Software Development (2004). Steve Mcconnell's book “Software Estimation – Demystifying the Black Art” starts with an excellent chapter on just this – estimates, targets and commitments. Software Estimation – Demystifying the Black Art is another masterpiece by Steve McConnell. Stutzke; Agile Estimating and Planning, by Mike Cohn. Steve McConnell is the best-selling author of Code Complete and Rapid Development, winners of Software Development's Jolt award as well as Software Estimation: Demystifying the Black Art, and other titles. He's got a new book out, and it's called (on Amazon.com), Software Estimation: Demystifying the Black Art (Best Practices (Microsoft)) (Paperback). He describes about 90% accuracy, the value of historical data and politics. I introduced in last june book Code Complete 2 by same author - it is suggested reading for developers.
